Motor Carrier Insurance Recommendations
You spent a lot of money on your heavy truck, and you want to be sure it's protected. After all, your truck is your livelihood — that's why tractor trailer insurance designed specifically for your heavy truck is so important. Choosing the right motor carrier insurance options is the best way to protect your investment and your business.
Tractor Trailer Insurance for Your Heavy Truck
Progressive offers a wide variety of truckers insurance coverages recommended for motor carriers. While coverages like Primary Liability insurance are mandatory, others, like Medical Payments insurance, are optional but make sense to give you maximum protection.
The following is a complete list of motor carrier insurance coverages and how they can protect you.
Mandatory Heavy Truck Insurance
Primary Liability insurance – Pays for damages that you cause to other people and their property.
Optional Heavy Truck Insurance
Medical Payments insurance – Pays medical bills for you and any passengers in your vehicle in case they are hurt in an accident or auto-related injury.
Physical Damage insurance – Pays for repairs to your vehicle if it's damaged in an accident, whether it's caused by a collision with another vehicle or a falling tree branch.
Uninsured Motorist insurance – Pays for injuries and damages to you and your vehicle caused by drivers who don't have insurance or don't have enough insurance to cover your injuries and damages. Also protects you in case of a hit-and-run.
Cargo Insurance – Coming Soon! - Pays for damages to any cargo you're hauling. Progressive does not offer this insurance at this time.
Radius of Operations Limitations
Progressive has a radius of operation restriction of up to 300 or 500 miles, depending on your state. This restriction helps us provide superior products and services for regional and local trucking businesses.
This restriction does not apply to Physical Damage insurance and Contingent Liability insurance.
Keep in mind that we calculate our radius of operations as the crow flies instead of in road miles, so 300 miles can actually cover a fairly large area.
Example
If your business is headquartered in Buffalo, N.Y., a 300-mile radius allows you to drive to Cleveland, Detroit, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and everywhere in between.
If your state offers a 500-mile radius, you can travel even farther.
