Smart Haul® and Snapshot ProView® Privacy Statement
Last updated July 17th, 2025
At Progressive, we're committed to protecting your privacy and earning your trust. We understand that you value your privacy, and that you may have questions about how we use the data collected through our Smart Haul and Snapshot ProView programs (“Programs”). That's why in addition to our commitment to you in our Privacy Policy, available at www.progressivecommercial.com, we want to clearly describe the data we receive and how we will use the data.
The Programs allow you to get a personalized vehicle insurance rate based on how you drive. While we still take into account traditional factors in providing your quote or determining your rate, like the type of vehicle you drive and previous accidents or traffic violations, the Programs also consider your actual driving behavior.
PROGRAM DATA SOURCES
You can choose to provide data to us through one of these 2 Programs:
- Smart Haul uses the technology built into or added to your vehicle, such as an electronic logging device or other telematics device supplied by a telematics service provider who makes the data available to us with your consent (“Smart Haul Device”).
- Snapshot ProView uses the device we provide which plugs into the Onboard Diagnostic port of your vehicle (“Snapshot ProView Device”).
Other information, such as trip duration, miles driven, and rates of acceleration and braking, is derived from the data provided. Program data is encrypted when transmitted to us.
PROGRAM DATA RECEIVED
The Smart Haul Device records vehicle speed, location and time of day, when the Smart Haul Device is connected and disconnected from the vehicle, odometer readings, and the Vehicle Identification Number. If you have qualified dashcams installed in your vehicles, we also receive dashcam data (including video) from your telematics device vendor.
The Snapshot ProView Device records vehicle speed and time of day, when the Snapshot ProView Device is plugged in and unplugged from the vehicle, the Vehicle Identification Number, and G-force and vehicle location using GPS.
In each case, other information, such as trip duration, miles driven and rates of acceleration and braking, is derived from the Program data we receive.
HOW WE USE THE PROGRAM DATA
The Programs focus on how, when, and where you drive. Personally identifiable Program data is treated as Application Information under our Privacy Policy at www.progressivecommercial.com.
We may use the Program data we receive to calculate your Program score, which, along with other traditional rating factors, determines your insurance quote, the rate you will pay when your policy renews, or pricing for a future policy.
Program data we receive may also be used
- For underwriting purposes, including verification of information provided by you or with your consent.
- For rating purposes, including verification of information provided by you or with your consent.
- To assist in resolving insurance claims in the event of an incident or accident (“accident”), which may include, without limitation, validating the circumstances of the accident, such as date and time of loss and accident location. For Smart Haul, this may also include vehicle identification. For Snapshot ProView, we may also use data we receive to detect whether an accident may have occurred and offer assistance to you at the scene, to make liability and coverage determinations, to conduct investigations of policy and/or claims fraud and material misrepresentations, and for any potential subrogation or litigation involving the claim.
- For research and development.
- For Snapshot ProView, to provide you with reports on your driving behavior.
After data is sent to us from a Snapshot ProView Device, it is deleted from the Snapshot ProView Device. Data collected by a Smart Haul Device will be used and retained by the telematics device vendor as separately described by them.
We limit access to the Program data we receive and use physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to help protect it and your privacy. We will retain this data indefinitely.
WHEN WE MAY DISCLOSE THE PROGRAM DATA TO OTHERS
We may share personally identifiable Program data with third parties to service your insurance policy, detect or prevent fraud, perform research, market our or our affiliates' products and services to you, or as required or permitted by law. For example, such Program data may be disclosed:
- When we determine that we're legally required to provide the Program data, such as in response to a subpoena in a civil lawsuit or by police when investigating the cause of an accident.
- To a state department of insurance to support renewal rates.
- To service providers who are contractually required to maintain its confidentiality.
- To assist in resolving an insurance claim, which may include sharing data in litigation or with other insurers for subrogation purposes involving the claim.
You may limit some of the marketing of our or our affiliates' products and services to you by calling us at 844-582-5040. Your choice will apply to all people listed on your policy.
We may share de-personalized Program data more broadly. De-personalizing the data means that we remove personally identifiable information so that the data cannot be associated with a particular driver or policyholder.
Ending Your Enrollment in the Programs
If you enrolled in the voluntary program, you may end your enrollment at any time by contacting your agent or Progressive Commercial.
If you were required to enroll in one of the Programs to qualify for a Commercial Auto policy, and you no longer wish to remain enrolled, you may contact your agent or Progressive Commercial and ask to cancel your policy.
